Propuesta de un nuevo material a base de fibra de coco para la utilización en la industria de la onstrucción

La industria de la construcción busca reducir su impacto ambiental mediante el uso de materiales sostenibles que permitan aprovechar residuos agroindustriales. En este contexto, la fibra de coco surge como una alternativa ecoeficiente por su disponibilidad, bajo costo y propiedades físicas y mecánicas favorables. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar las propiedades físico-mecánicas y térmicas de paneles elaborados con fibra de coco tratados químicamente, a fin de determinar su viabilidad como material de construcción sostenible. Las fibras fueron sometidas a un proceso de secado y tratamiento con NaOH al 5.00% antes de su incorporación en la matriz. Se elaboraron especímenes para ensayos de densidad aparente, peso unitario, absorción de agua, humedad, resistencia mecánica y conductividad térmica. Los resultados mostraron una densidad aparente de 0.733 g/cm³, con un peso unitario de 0.025 g/cm³, confirmando la ligereza del material. La absorción de agua alcanzó el 20.00%, mientras que la humedad fue de 8.13%. En términos mecánicos, la fibra presentó una resistencia a la tensión de 574.00 kg/cm² y los paneles reforzados registraron valores de flexión entre 10.71 kg/cm2 y 17.05 kg/cm², con un promedio de 14.46 kg/cm². Además, el biocompósito SO4 mostró una conductividad térmica de 0.091 W/m·K, valor característico de materiales aislantes.
