Comportamiento físico y mecánico de mezclas asfálticas en caliente modificadas con fibras de bambú

El desarrollo de pavimentos flexibles más eficientes y sostenibles con el medio ambiente ha impulsado la necesidad de investigar materiales alternativos de origen natural que sean capaces de mejorar el comportamiento de las mezclas asfálticas en caliente, destacando la fibra de bambú, debido a sus propiedades mecánicas y carácter renovable. La investigación tuvo por objetivo evaluar el comportamiento físico y mecánico de mezclas asfálticas en caliente modificadas con fibras de bambú, usando adiciones de 0.20%, 0.25%, 0.30%, 0.35% y 0.40%. La metodología fue del tipo aplicada y diseño experimental, para lo cual fue necesario elaborar 72 muestras cilíndricas, correspondientes a la muestra control y a los diferentes tratamientos con fibras, para establecer con los ensayos de laboratorio, las propiedades fisicomecánicas de la mezcla asfáltica. Los resultados evidenciaron variaciones en las propiedades volumétricas de las mezclas, con comportamientos diferenciados del peso específico, porcentaje de vacíos, porcentaje de vacíos en el agregado mineral y porcentaje de vacíos llenos con cemento asfáltico, según la dosificación de fibra empleada. En cuanto a las propiedades mecánicas, aumentaron hasta 0.30% de fibra, lográndose optimizar el comportamiento mecánico de la mezcla asfáltica estándar, pues el flujo, estabilidad y rigidez aumentaron en 5.96%, 11.92% y 5.46%, respectivamente. Por lo expuesto, la incorporación de fibras de bambú constituye una alternativa técnicamente viable, contribuyendo al Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible 12, relacionado con la producción y consumo responsable.
